Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the Rocinha Favela Tour safe?

Your safety and comfort are our priority. Our tours are led by experienced local guides who live in or have strong connections to Rocinha and know the community well. We follow established routes and adapt the tour when local conditions require it.

2. Is this a real favela or a tourist attraction?

Rocinha is a real and active community where thousands of people live and work every day. Our goal is not to create a staged experience, but to help visitors understand the history, culture and everyday life of the community in a respectful way.

3. Will we visit people’s homes?

No. We respect the privacy of residents. Our tour is designed to introduce you to the community without invading people’s personal lives.

4. Who will be my guide?

You will be accompanied by a local guide who knows Rocinha and can share personal knowledge about the community, its history and everyday life.

5. How long does the Favela Tour last?

The complete experience takes approximately 3 hours, including transportation when applicable. Around 2 hours are spent walking inside Rocinha.

6. Is the tour difficult?

The tour involves walking through narrow streets, hills, stairs and uneven surfaces. We consider it a moderate walking experience. Comfortable shoes and a bottle of water are strongly recommended.

7. What languages are available?

Our tours are available in different languages depending on the date and departure time, including English, Portuguese, Spanish, French and German. Please check the available language when making your reservation.

8. Where does the tour start?

Our meeting points depend on the tour and departure time. Our classic tours include convenient meeting points in the Copacabana and Ipanema areas, while some experiences depart from São Conrado.

Your booking confirmation will include the exact meeting point and instructions.

Our classic group tours include transportation from the designated meeting points in Copacabana and Ipanema. If you are staying somewhere else, please contact us and we can explain the best option for reaching the tour.

Absolutely. Solo travelers are welcome. You will join other travelers in one of our small group tours and experience Rocinha together with a local guide.

11. Can children participate?

Yes, children can join our classic walking tour. However, because Rocinha has stairs, uneven streets and considerable walking, parents should consider their child’s age and mobility before booking.

For younger children, please contact us before booking so we can recommend the most suitable experience.

12. Do you offer private tours?

Yes. We offer private experiences for travelers who prefer a more personalized itinerary, including private favela tours and experiences with lunch, motorcycle transportation and drone footage.

Yes. Our motorcycle experience allows you to reach the upper part of Rocinha by motorcycle taxi before continuing the experience on foot. This option is particularly suitable for travelers looking for a different way to experience the community.

14. Can I take photos and videos during the tour?

Yes, photography is generally welcome. However, we ask visitors to be respectful of residents and always consider people’s privacy before taking photographs or filming them.

If you do not want to appear in photographs or videos taken by our team for social media, please let your guide know before the tour begins.

15. Does my tour contribute to the local community?

Yes. Our tours are operated with local guides and include a contribution toward social investment in the community. We believe tourism should create opportunities for both visitors and local residents.

16. Can I pay in cash?

Yes, cash and other payment options may be available depending on the tour. Please check the current price and payment conditions when making your reservation.
